Search

Following on from our June 2006 monthly meeting, where the very popular Dr Mark Fisher treated us to some incredible images of woodlands and woodland plants, here are some of the websites that he mentioned during his talk.

The Natural History Museum  with the Flora for Postcode search engine that Mark mentioned. (It's not that easy to find, so I've found the direct link.)

Also mentioned was the Woods Under Threat website. The Defra website with the details of the Forestry Commission consultation that we were asked to vote for can be found here , to vote, you need to click on the email link and specify that you support the work the Forestry Commission is doing.

And finally, the Magic website, again, not the easiest to navigate, but I managed to find the habitat of Ancient Woodland's that Mark mentioned.  At the Step 1 drop down menu, choose Habitat Inventories, then search via a postcode or area in Step 2 and search right down to street level.

Looking at the map of the Ilkley area, it shows that Middleton Woods are indeed Ancient Woodland, with two smaller areas to the west of Ilkley being Ancient replanted woodland and a very large area to the east, between Westville House School and Denton also being Ancient replanted Woodland Habitat.
