Have you got a garden?  Are there times when you need ideas and inspiration? Ilkley Gardeners' Association is the place for you.  We hold meetings almost every month where our experienced speakers provide plenty of food for thought.  There are trips in summer to gardens around Yorkshire and further afield which can provide inspiration to even the most experienced gardeners.  Our stores are open on many Sundays from March to November so that you can buy your basic garden requirements at discounted prices and can discuss your problems.  We arrange sales of good quality plants in Spring and our Annual Plant Auction is a prime source of bargains and ideas.

The Association was formed in 1967 and 2007 is our Ruby Anniversary Year.  A 40th anniversary deserves a special celebratory event and so we have arranged for the TV gardener and author Matthew Biggs to be our speaker on Thursday April 5th at the Ilkley Playhouse, a larger venue than our usual Church House.  He is the presenter of Channel 4's "Garden Club" as well as BBC's "How Does Your Garden Grow" and a regular panellist on "Gardeners' Question Time."  He will be giving a talk based on locations visited whilst filming for TV and will enlighten us on the characters and treasures in the "Back Gardens of Britain."  Matthew is a prolific author, his latest book being "Gardening at Eden: And How to Do It at Home" which was recently published.

All this and some cake and a glass of Cava will make this a memorable celebration of the success and longevity of the IGA and will be well worth the cost of the ticket - £5.00 for members and £6.00 for non-members.  Book now by contacting David Shepherdson, the IGA Chairman (Number on your members card).  Alternatively, you can book online at our website http://www.ilkleygardeners.org.uk/matthew,
designed and lovingly maintained by our Chairman.

At the peak of its success the Association arranged annual flower shows where members would show off their best specimens of flowers and vegetables but we are no longer so ambitious.  We aim now to spread the word about the pleasures of gardening and to help the people of Ilkley to get the best out of their gardens, no matter how large or small.

Membership of the Association costs only £5.00 per garden per year. This is such a reasonable price.  The average family of four makes full use of their garden all year round.  The children play with the dog; the barbecue area is becoming more and more popular and the shrubs and flowers enliven the view out of your windows.  At a cost of only £1.25 per person per year the average family can reap many benefits from membership and the cost goes down the larger the number of users the garden has.

Look at the website for more information and then join the IGA to help you to make your garden grow.
