The Association Fuchsia for 2007 was purchased early in the year, in fact it was ordered late 2006 with a hope that a special variety could be chosen to be suitable for our 40th Anniversary.

I looked for a variety called Ruby (no luck), Anniversary (no luck again) and finally settled on Wharfedale as the 2007 Association Fuchsia and duly ordered 50 cuttings for April 2007.

When I went to collect them I was told that the cuttings had not grown well enough to be suitable for our purposes and should pick another variety.

After an hour or more wandering around the nursery and gazing into catalogues and taking advice from a very patient and helpful young lady who struck most of the thousands of cuttings on display, I settled on Preston Guild as the 2007 variety.

Apologies to those who feel that a Lancashire named variety was unsuitable for our Yorkshire society's Ruby Anniversary, but it did look healthy and should be a good variety.

By the time September rolled around, my cuttings had grown to about 18" high and very less than impressive. We will try something different for 2008 I think, still a fuchsia, but something different.

The winner of the 2007 Association Fuchsia was Eibhlis Scally and she gets to keep the 3D trophy for the year, congratulations to Eibhlis!
