How I make a tower of bedding Begonias. Well, obviously I need a number of plants and I get mine from Jersey Plants early in the year and grow them on until they are big enough to plant out when the frosts have finished.
Rather than fill a large tub with a mixture of potting compost and soil, I first put a pot upside down in the large tub, then fill around this with my compost mixture, then plant my Begonias around the side of the tub. Next I place a similar size pot, the right way up, on the buried pot. Put some more compost in this and finish off with more plants.
This means the tub of plants is a little lighter to carry, though if you live in a windy hole, you may need to put a stone in the main tub rather than an upside pot. It also means you use less compost with saves on your your pocket and the envirnoment. So far, I have not found this to be a detriment to the display of plants by reducing the quantity of compost used.
